How This Alberta Casino Map Is Made

This page explains how the guide is put together: who writes it, how the 30 venues were counted and how the map is drawn. It also says what happens when two sources disagree. Opening hours appear in the "Plan your visit" table on each venue page and the "Hours side by side" table on region pages. Where a venue's own pages disagree, the table says so instead of picking one. The map itself gives no distances or drive times; the reasons are below.

The desk and the map

This guide is signed by the province map desk, a collective editorial signature rather than a named writer. Nothing on the pages is told through a character or a personal story. No visits or credentials are claimed, and none should be inferred.

Alberta is a big province, and the drives between its casinos can be long. The site was built so the whole province fits on a single screen. Every listed venue sits on a single map, with filters for region and type. From there, the region pages and the pages on First Nations and racetrack casinos take over.

How the map and listings are built

The 30 venues are this site's own count, not an official figure. They are sorted into five regions: Calgary area 9, Edmonton area 8, Central Alberta 5, the North 5 and the South 3. Each also gets one of three types. There are 19 casinos, 6 First Nations casinos and 5 racetrack casinos, which AGLC calls racing entertainment centres.

Drawing the map started from latitude and longitude. The outline uses straight lines for the northern, eastern and southern borders and the northern part of the western border, and the Rocky Mountain divide in the southwest. It is schematic, not a road map. For 14 venues with no published coordinates for the building, the dot marks the town rather than the building. That is why the map shows no distances or drive times.

Facts come from AGLC, the venues' own pages and news of ownership changes. Recent examples are PURE's purchase of Gamehost and Century Casinos' agreed sale of Century Mile and Century Downs. Each fact is kept with its source and a date. Where venue pages disagree on hours, the hours table says so instead of picking one. Conflicting phone numbers, addresses or operators are left out, and the AGLC directory at aglc.ca/gaming/casinos/find-casino-rec covers addresses, phones and games.

This edition dates from October 2026. Opening hours appear in the "Plan your visit" table on each venue page, with a date on each line. Region pages compare them in an "Hours side by side" table. Where a venue's own pages disagree, the table says so instead of picking one. Check the venue's own page before you set out.
